Marketing / Business Department

Marketing / Business / DECA

The Anchor Bay High School CTE Marketing/Business Department is preparing students for the working world after high school in many ways. Our Marketing/Business programs teach students the skills need in today's business world, from retail to business management, interviewing and career development.

Students in the Marketing/Business areas are enrolled in classes which teach life skills. Introduction To Business students learn about economics and consumers, careers and operations, in the everyday economic environment of today. Also taught are skills in banking, checking, savings, credit, investments and insurance.

Marketing students are planning their future in the marketing and business fields of study. The course teaches the fundamentals of marketing with the basic terms and concepts. The knowledge and tools necessary to design and implement effective marketing programs is taught in these courses.

The Store Management / Retail Floral Management give the students an opportunity to develop the skills they will need to run a retail store. The Nautical Shoppe, our school store is open during the school day during all lunches.

All students are given the opportunity to join the Anchor Bay DECA Club. DECA provides opportunities for its members to explore career options, gain real-world experience, and take on leadership roles. The Club competes with other Marketing students at District, State, and International levels.

Stop by and check out the Marketing/Business Department and The Nautical Shoppe here at Anchor Bay. Your FUTURE is our business.

All Marketing students are encouraged to join the Anchor Bay DECA Club. DECA is an “Association of Marketing Students” who are planning careers in business, marketing, management and entrepreneurship. DECA provides opportunities for its members to explore career options, gain real-world experience, and take on leadership roles. These competitive events give students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge through both written and role playing events. Our 38 Club members competed at District Competition this year in January at Lake Orion High School. Sixteen of our members were medalists at the District level and are moving on to compete at the State Level at the Hyatt Regency, in Dearborn, on March 9, 10, and 11, 2012. These members are: Erin Binienda, Jacob Bowling, Zachary Zajdel, Bianca Burns, Erin Fortune, Jennifer Gerlando, Justin Glodich, Jennifer Hackler, Michael Kazmer, Will Kempf, Sterling Morrison, Amanda Simon, Elizabeth Walker, Lauren Williams, Eric Andrews, Craig Lenhausen and Thomas Liss.

Congratulations and Good Luck to all our DECA members and State Competition!!!

The DECA Club students are also involved in many community service projects.

DECA members sell Shamrocks for MDA during March each year. Last year our club donated $1600.00 to MDA. This sent two children with Muscular Dystrophy to camp during the summer. Our Shamrock Sales are in full swing now. We are hoping to exceed last year’s donation. Stop by the Nautical Shoppe or ask a DECA member to buy a Shamrock for MDA!

School Store Managers run The Nautical Shoppe, our school store. Managers are in charge of everything necessary to run a retail establishment, from ordering and running the register, to inventory and cost control.

The Nautical Shoppe has been very busy again this year. From hoodies to sweats, to band equipment and school supplies, we have it all. We also offer fresh flowers and gifts in the Floral Department of the store. The student run store is open for business to serve our two thousand students daily between 10:30 a.m. and noon.
