Our Floral Design/Horticulture class has been very busy again
this year. Starting out with Homecoming Corsages and Boutineers to
fresh pumpkin arrangements for Halloween, they have been working hard.
In early December the students designed and decorated their own Christmas tree
to donate to the "Festival of Trees." The program, which is sponsored by Port Huron Hospital,
is a weekend event which donates trees to sponsors who, in turn, design, decorate and
bring the trees back for auction or sale. The proceeds go to the Port Huron Hospital.
It is a great experience for all involved, and we're happy to say that all Anchor Bays'
trees were sold this year.
The class has just finished working on fresh pine wreaths for the fundraiser for the
Chicago trip for the Middle Schools. Also, in the Christmas spirit, we have worked on
decorating and making wreaths, trees, and candle holders that are for sale in the Coastal
Floral Shop.
We're looking forward to spring, and planting in our greenhouse. Make sure to remember
us this year for your plants this spring!

Broadcasting
Anchor Bay's broadcasting class just keeps growing. This year there are two classes which allowed the students to venture out and add unique segments to the broadcast. Students filmed sporting events, produced and editing commercials and public service announcements. They also produced a daily broadcast that is shown to the school and played on Comcast Channel 6 two times a day.
The class is run as a "hands on" experience with the students filling all the roles found in an actual news broadcast. The students research the stories that they report on and can even do "in the field" assignments. One day they may be anchoring behind the news desk and the next time running the camera or directing. They even get a chance to run the sound board and toaster. No, they are not making breakfast; the toaster is a VT-3 Editing Computer program that allows for the whole broadcast to be put together with the special effects, blue screen, news clips, and transitions.
So keep your TV's tuned to WABS Channel 6 to see what new things Anchor Bay's broadcasting class is up to!
Construction Trades-Detroit Edison
On Friday the 15th of September three representatives from The Mt. Clemens Service Center conducted a safety seminar for the Construction Trades and Industrial Technology Classes.
Overhead Supervisor Joyce Girard with help from Douglas Seiler (Cable Splicing Specialist) and Tammy Seifert (Line Person) put on a great presentation about the type of work that they perform on a daily basis.
The three DTE employees demonstrated all the different safety equipment that is on a service truck. The students from all 6 classes were allowed to try and use the equipment with the safety gloves on. They found this to be challenging and fun. Mr. Seiler explained the safety procedures to the students; DTE believes that SAFETY is the #1 concern. Thank You once again DTE, from Anchor Bay Construction Trades
